In a world unduly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, what have changed are not limited to just our daily routines and lifestyles. Art production and international exchange have also been widely impacted. While not all influences of the pandemic are obvious, it is certain that, in the past year, residency programs, institutions, art spaces and artists have all faced never-before-seen challenges and felt isolated. Despite so, new models of art creation, inter-disciplinary cooperation, performances, exhibits, participatory forums and seminars are emerging and being put to practice.COVID-19 may one day be a thing of the past, but the changes and innovation in art and other disciplines it brings about may also stick and become significant turning points for residency programs and international exchange. There is no denying that, in the coming years, we will see a more diverse art scene and more possibilities for art exchange and performances. In this series of seminars, major residency programs and art spaces in Taiwan will share their stories of surviving the pandemic last year, as well as how they steer into new directions in 2021. They will re-examine the effectiveness, difficulties, and inadequacies of art residencies, along with surprising discoveries in light of this unusual time. For some, 2020 might be a “non-existent year,” but we certainly can fill that void and make 2021 a more fruitful one.On the Series
(Private Discussions / Closed-door Sessions) Invited participants will be group or individual members of TASA.Members of TASA’s partner organizations in Taiwan will discuss future possibilities for residency programs. Emerging artists and key figures in the art scene will be invited to look into the biggest challenges and opportunities presented by COVID-19, with a focus on their voices, thoughts, and breakthrough innovations that have helped them manage amid the pandemic. The series hopes to serve as stimuli for a more prosperous future of artist-in-residence programs.
